Greece, N.Y. – A local teacher gets a special surprise thanks to a student.
Maddie Bennett, a fourth grader at Kirk Road Elementary School in Greece, entered a national contest. She nominated her Braille teacher, Mrs. Kelly, as her favorite. Maddie’s essay was chosen out of 600 entries.
On Thursday, Mrs. Kelly was surprised with the news that she won. “It is very touching. I have been with her so long,” says Mrs. Kelly.
“She’s my eyes, my teacher, my friend,” says Maddie.
Both Maddie and Mrs. Kelly win a prize. Both of them, and their families, are going to Disney World.
