Brighton, N.Y. – Local officials marked Veterans Day by dedicating a long-awaited memorial.
The town unveiled its new veterans memorial Sunday afternoon at Buckland Park.
The memorial honors veterans from Brighton who served in the armed forces. It has symbols for each of the five branches, and includes benches for park visitors.
The DiMarco Group helped the town fund and build the memorial, and local artist Mary Taylor sculpted it.
William Moehle, town supervisor, said the town is excited to honor its veterans with the unique memorial.
“The statue features rugged boulders, and also the beautiful sculpted eagle,” he said. “(Taylor has) just done a magnificent job of melding all the different textures together into what is a beautiful and striking monument.”
