Pittsford, N.Y. – A Sutherland High School freshman is making big contributions to the local community.

Alia Bajorek, 14, led the CANs for Kids Drive Saturday. The program collects recyclable bottles and cans to raise money for children’s arts programs.

Bajorek said the project was much more successful than she imagined.

“I didn’t think that many people would be so generous,” she said. “Even though it’s just like 5-cent returnables and recyclables, it still means a lot that so many people donated.”

Cans or bottles for the project can be dropped off at the Henrietta Redemption Center on East Henrietta Road throughout the rest of December.
