Canandaigua, N.Y. — Canandaigua residents got a chance to see updated plans for a lake redevelopment project at city council meeting, Thursday night.
Most of the changes are considered to be minor, according to City Manager Kay James.
“The number of rooms is more,” said James. “I think it’s more in balance now.”
Other changes include a reduction in floors, from six to five. Under the new plans, there would also be about 4,000 fewer square feet of conference space.
“I have concerns about this redevelopment,” said Bob Purple, a city resident who once worked as an engineer.
Purple gave architects and the attorney representing the project’s developer, David Genecco his own checklist.
While he questions the plan, Purple said he does want a hotel.
“I think we need a nice lake hotel,” added Purple.
James said leaders approved a plan submitted by Genecco nearly five years ago, but given the recent changes, the council will need to discuss this again before giving a final approval.
The developer will answer questions from council members at a committee meeting scheduled for February 21st. It is possible that final approval could come March 7th, according to City Mayor Ellen Polimeni.
