Sweden, N.Y. - Police are trying to figure out how a car ended up in the Erie Canal.
Police made the discovery near Sweden early Thursday morning.
It took several hours for scuba divers to pull the car out of the water.
Monroe County Sheriff's deputies say the car was reported stolen from Rochester and believe it has been in the canal for some time.
A safe was found in the car, but police do not know where it came from or who it belongs to.
The investigation is ongoing.
