Syracuse, N.Y. -- Members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Kansas plan to protest outside the Carrier Dome Friday.

The church is known for protesting outside military funerals. Members believe that combat deaths are punishment for America's acceptance of homosexuality.

About seven church members plan to demonstrate before the Syracuse Orange take on the Florida Gators. They are protesting the University's handling of the sexual abuse allegations against fired assistant coach Bernie Fine.

Church member Jonathan Phelps tells our sister station, 9WSYR in Syracuse, the protest is meant, "“to show Syracuse, New York, and the U.S., their sin in relationship to the conduct of the coaches of college sports and the great sin of making heroes out of them.”

A group of S.U. students is planning a counter-protest.

Syracuse police will be on hand to monitor the protestors, but do not expect any problems.
