Cayuga Lake, N.Y – The death of a 69-year-old man Tuesday in Springport Cove is under investigation by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff David Gould reports the victim was on a pontoon boat with three others when he told them he was going to wade into shore. They were anchored in waist deep water at the time.
Fifteen minutes later another boater spotted the man floating face down in the water. He was brought ashore, 911 was called and he was taken to Auburn Community Hospital.
He could not be revived and was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m.
It’s unknown whether he suffered a fatal medical condition. The body will be turned over the
Onondaga County Medical Examiner for autopsy.
His name is being withheld at this time.
