Chemung, N.Y. – At least two people have died in a house fire.
Chemung County Sheriff's Office confirmed in a news release that they launched a “multiple death” investigation.
Fire crews were called to 2131 McDowell Road, also known as the “Hydro Berry” farm around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon, according to 13WHAM News affiliate WETM Elmira-Corning. When they arrived the home was fully engulfed in flames.
Four hours later, firefighters were still out at the scene, trying to clear the smoke.
Authorities at the scene said the fire was being handled as a criminal investigation.
Names are being withheld pending notification of family members.
