Rochester, N.Y. -- A girl who was struck by a bullet fragment Wednesday evening was not the intended target, according to police. She remained hospitalized Thursday.
Jomaira Rodriguez, who is 11, was riding in the backseat of a car in the 1000 block of Norton Street, when a man started firing shots at about 6:10 p.m. Police don't know who or what he intended to hit.
The girl was struck by the fragment in the left side of her face. She was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and is said to be in good shape.
Police set up a perimeter around the area while they searched for the shooter. No one is in custody.
