Rochester, N.Y. -- Joe Conciardo's mouth was watering for those wings with the special sauce. When he arrived at the Monroe Avenue Country Sweet restaurant Tuesday, he realized he would leave hungry.
That store and the one on Lake Avenue closed.
General Manager Skip DeLorme says the economy, chicken wing prices, and problems on Monroe Avenue on weekends, hurt business. He says the owners could no longer afford to keep those two restaurants open. The hardest part, DeLorme says was having to tell 20-25 workers that they were losing their jobs.
For loyal customers like Conciardo, the news is disappointing. Conciardo says he will drive out of his way to visit the Mount Hope Avenue location which will remain open.
Business there is stronger DeLorme says because of traffic from the hospital, university and neighboring businesses.
Country Sweet first opened in 1977.
