Gates, N.Y.—The shelves at Ace Hardware in Gates have been freshly stocked with shrink wrap and foam window insulation. Managers say that over the past few days as fall has grown cooler, demand is up for products designed to keep the cold air out.
It is not unseasonable weather, but with temperatures dipping near freezing the home heating season is getting closer by the day.
“(We) Just bumped up the heat last night, actually,” said Diane Morison, a homeowner in Ogden.
Her home has a tempered heating system; one that lowers and raises the temperature to a comfortable level.
“They say the heat (prices) are going up, so I really want to keep it down as much as possible,” explained Morison.
Heating fuels inched upward Monday, according to

“This is the first time this year we can say, ‘Hey, we’re on track,’” said Walt Nelson, Agriculturist for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County.
