Pittsford, N.Y. - At a standing room-only meeting Monday night, the Village of Pittsford approved a controversial development along the Erie Canal.
The development at the old asphalt oil plant at 75 Monroe Avenue would create new luxury apartments.
There have been 70 meetings about this project and 25 versions of this resolution.
Residents have expressed concern for years about the traffic and noise that could come with the project and whether this development will truly fit into the village of Pittsford. Opponents of the plan wore red during Monday's vote.
The vote from the Village Board is just the first step for the proposal. The developers must also get approved from the Planning Board and Preservation Board. Members of both boards could deny the application. But according to the Pittsford Mayor, the most likely scenario will be that the developer will come back with a redesign for approval.
