Rochester, N.Y.--A recent spate of shootings and stabbings has prompted questions about what can be done to reduce such incidents --including the idea of revisiting a citywide curfew for youths.
In 2006, a citywide curfew went into affect--prohibiting youths under 17 years of age from being out past 11 p.m.
In 2009 after being challenged, the curfew was struck down by an Appeals Court judge.
"It gave a lot of families, a lot of moms and dads, a tool to use," said Mayor Bob Duffy. "What we have to do is go back and make sure that we have a statute and legislation that will withstand a challenge."
Duffy warned that the curfew is being looked at, change is not imminent, but the idea is back on the table.
City Council Member Adam McFadden likes the idea of bringing back a curfew, but has concerns.
"I would like to see a draft and have a conversation with our legal department around whether or not it could get past a challenge," said McFadden.
