Rochester, N.Y. -- Republicans held a one-seat majority in the Monroe County Legislature coming into election night with 15 of the 29 seats up for grabs.

However, one source at Democratic headquarters called the night a complete "wipeout."

Coming into the night 13WHAM had control of the County Legislature isolated to four key races which all went the republicans’ way.

In Perinton/Pittsford, District #18, Ciaran Hanna beat Democrat Nora Bredes 62% to 38%.

In the 13th district in Henrietta, Republican John Howland came out with a 55-45 win over Mike Condello.

In Gates, Republican incumbent Steve Tuccierello won 63-37 over Democrat Frank Muscato.

In the hard-fought battleground of Greece, incumbent Rick Antelli beat Democrat Mark Coon 58%-42%.

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks says the Democrats gave her party a tough fight.

“The Democrats threw everything at us that they could possibly throw at us, but at the end of the day, the voters decided that we were talking about the right things. It’s all the pocketbook issues,” said Brooks.

“Starting tomorrow, we go back, we do the work of the people. We make sure we have this county have a fiscally responsible budget. We make sure that we keep taxes stabilized, and we work on building the economy in the county,” said County Legislator Harry Bronson (D).

Two notes to keep in mind, from sources from both political parties: The conservative vote came up big for Republicans at the town and county level, and that could be an indication that the national landscape politically, healthcare reform, for example, is playing out in local races.
