Skaneateles, N.Y. - Cow manure could be the key to cutting your electricity bill.

A Syracuse area farm has its cows for milking, but workers also collect the cow pies and convert it into energy.

They call it "cow power."

This process is fairly common in Germany and now more and more farmers here are using it to cut costs.

"Once in the engine generator," Steve McGlynn of Twin Birch Dairy said, "The fuel is used to power a six cylinder generator which is used to power a 225 kilowatts per hour."

The system provides enough energy to power 170 average sized homes.

One day, some say it will be more commonly used in cars as a fuel source.
