New York -  Governor Andrew Cuomo plans to ask the federal government for $30 billion dollars to help the state recover from superstorm Sandy.

An administration official says the request probably will include $3.5 billion for repairs to bridges, tunnels, commuter rails and the subway system, which was flooded when Sandy struck Oct. 29.

About $1.65 billion would help rebuild damaged homes and $1 billion would go to local governments to cover overtime costs.

The plan is based on an estimated $50 billion in damages and would help cover the cost of improvements like a power grid meant to improve utilities' ability to find and fix outages and upgrade New York City's gasoline supply capacity.
