Rochester, N.Y.—Justin Forrester’s three-year-old daughter Jayden is slowly healing from her many wounds.
“It’s going to take a really long time, but the people here at Strong did an amazing job,” said Forrester of the doctors treating Jayden at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Saturday, as Jayden, Justin and his girlfriend, Malissa Moore visited relatives for a picnic, the child was attacked.
“I heard the scream, the growl,” explained Forrester. “I ran into the room to find her whole head, her face in the dog’s mouth and pulled the (dog’s) mouth open.”
Jayden suffered broken cheekbones, lost five teeth, a fractured jaw and a severed tear duct among other injuries.
“These surgeons did a great job. It’s amazing. I had no hope when I saw her at first,” Forrester said.
RecoveryTuesday, Jayden Forrester’s feeding and breathing tubes were removed according to the family. She yelled for her father to be by her side.
“I tried to walk out of the room because I was falling apart, but Jayden had to call “Daddy,” so I had to suck it up,” Forrester explained.
Not long after, Jayden was alert and being playful in her hospital room.
“She’s upstairs right now, blowing bubbles in bed—like nothing happened. It is amazing,” Forrester said.
The DogThe family is calling this an accident and holds no one responsible. Animal Control took the dog away following the bite.
It is being kept in an isolation area and the family has said it does not want the animal back according to a police spokesman.
Medical BillsTo help with what are expected to be extensive medical bills not only for the emergency surgery and current care, but future cosmetic surgery Jayden will require, an online fundraiser was created.
