Rochester, N.Y.- Fathers and male caregivers across the state and in Rochester were encouraged to accompany their children to school Tuesday.

“Dads Take Your Children to School Day” is part of an ongoing effort to promote healthy families.

Andre Harper, The Family Services Manager at Rochester’s Action for a Better Community says they are encouraging local fathers to be a part of the school environment and be a part of their children’s education.

“We do know when dads are involved, academics are better, social skills are better, said Harper.

Harper says this is not an anti-mom movement because moms have always been a part of their children’s education and have always been well represented. But he says he wants fathers to get involved too.

This year there are over 150 participating locations - including schools and Head Start centers - in 26 counties statewide.
