Rochester, N.Y.- New plans were unveiled Thursday about the new Golisano Children’s Hospital.
The new $142 million tower which will be attached to the University of Rochester Medical Center and Strong Hospital will be eight floors.
U of R leaders say the most exciting features of the new building are the many spaces planned for gathering, playing and finding respite. It also includes private rooms for pediatric patients and their families, and a new hospitality suite parents can use to shower, eat home-cooked meals, and do laundry.
A resource library will allow families to learn more about their child’s injury or illness and a concierge service will help parents with errands.
The new hospital will also feature a two-story play deck on the seventh floor and on the eighth floor, a school room and teen room. A healing garden is also planned on the roof.
“The new hospital will help us provide state-of-the-art medicine for our region’s children, but our families’ needs reach far beyond the latest technology,” said Nine Schor, M.D., Ph.D., pediatrician-in-chief at Golisano Children’s Hospital.
The groundbreaking is planned for late summer or early fall, with an expected opening in 2015.
The new pediatric operating rooms and cardiac intensive care unit will open in the new building in 2016.
