Greece, N.Y.- Greece Police say an officer was attacked by a dog during a call to a domestic dispute Tuesday night.

Officers were called to a home on Cragg Road around 11:30 p.m.

Police say when they arrived they encountered a Mastif mix breed and asked the owner, Charese Whitaker, 31, to secure the dog.

The owner complied and the dog was placed in another part of the home.

Authorities say Officer John Fogarty had to walk past the dog to assist a family member with retrieving property when the dog lunged and bit him in the leg, causing puncture wounds and lacerations.

The officer was treated at Rochester General Hospital and released.

Animal Control took custody of the dog because police say the owner was unable to provide proof that the dog was licensed and had the appropriate rabies vaccine.

Police say Animal Control has several pending court cases involving the same dog and its owner, not involving this incident.
