Geneva, N.Y. – The Geoscience Department at Hobart and William Smith Colleges will be using a mobile radar system until March 1.

The Doppler-On-Wheels (DOW) will be operated by students and faculty as they study meteorology.

The DOW is managed and operated by the Center for Severe Weather Research. It can be used to collect data right at the location of the storm.  This device enables meteorologist to take the radar to the severe weather such as hurricanes , tornadoes or snow squalls.

The mobile radar system has also been featured on the Discovery Channel’s popular “Storm Chasers” show.
