Rochester, N.Y. – The Dryden Theatre at the George Eastman House reopened Saturday night after being closed since New Year’s Day for renovations.

The theatre features new lighting and more comfortable seating.

It showed the 2004 film “Sideways,” directed by Academy Award winner Alexander Payne, who was present for the opening Saturday night.

Payne said he loves to see such restoration.

“When old cinemas are preserved and restored, I feel ennobled,” he said. “I have a life devoted to cinema, so I like seeing our cathedrals renewed and restored.”
