LeRoy, N.Y. - The Environmental Protection Agency started removing 235 drums from the Lehigh Railroad Derailment Superfund site in LeRoy.

A train derailment in 1970 - resulted in the release of liquid trichloroethene and cyanide.

Testing has been completed on all the soil and rock in the barrels, which the EPA said is not hazardous.

Despite being below the EPA’s hazardous threshold, the barrels will be disposed of at a landfill that is permitted to accept hazardous waste in Belleville, Michigan.

The derailment site is being investigated as one of many possible causes for more than a dozen teenagers in the LeRoy School District who have developed tic-like symptoms.

Air testing at LeRoy High School also began Tuesday, but results are next expected for about seven weeks.
