Carlton, N.Y. - Roy Bannister's son said it's a miracle his father is alive.
An explosion from the Banisters' camper around 7:30 Tuesday morning tore apart a carport, their garage, and a part of their Point Breeze Road home.
Roy Bannister, was awake in his art studio, according to his son Roger Bannister, who lives next door.
Roger heard the explosion. "I thought it was a terrorist attack. That's how massive it was," he said.
He ran next door and dug through the rubble to find his 92-year-old father, who was conscious and talking--saying he wanted to find his wife.
"It is clearly a miracle that he is still alive," Roger Bannister said. "There is no explanation."
The Orleans County Sheriff's Office said it appears the explosion came from a camper parked in the carport.
Roy Bannister is in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
His family said Bannister's injuries are serious with burns over 40 percent of his body.
His wife Doris was not injured.
