Fairport, N.Y. – They’re built to scare things away, but scarecrows drew in visitors to the village of Fairport Saturday.

The 25th annual Fairport Scarecrow Festival displayed dozens of scarecrows created by local residents, businesses and other organizations.

In addition to scarecrow competitions, there was also a sidewalk sale, a farmers’ market and other family-friendly activities.

Scott Winner of the Fairport Village Partnership, which helped organize the event, said the event is a good way to bring people to the village who wouldn’t normally visit.

"Promotional activities such as this have a lot of different positive effects on the community,” Winner said, “Including for the local merchants but also just raising awareness of what a great community this is and all the great assets it has."
