Fairport, N.Y. - There was an overwhelming show of support Tuesday night for a Fairport High School athlete in the hospital with cancer.
Fairport hockey players and fans donned yellow shirts for the game against Pittsford in support of Blake Cognata.
The teen is fighting a rare form of bone cancer.
Friends Sean Pulver and Andrew Mietelski were among the hundreds in the audience.
"We came here to support Blake," Mietelski said. "Our whole community loves him. We're all behind him, and we all rally behind him every time we can."
"Blake is an inspiration to everybody," Pulver added. "He's always laughing, always smiling, and always making other people laugh. We're just supporting our friend. We love him and we're all pulling for him."
Blake's friends' efforts on Twitter eventually caught the eye of Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson, who called him in the hospital Monday.
Blake's family said it made his day.
