Fairport, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes region has been holding its own on the world’s wine stage, and Saturday it offered up a big toast.
The fifth annual NY Ice Wine and Culinary Festival at Casa Larga Vineyards in Fairport featured 10 wineries and plenty of tastings, plus ice sculpting, snowshoeing, barrel toasting and wine seminars.
This year’s event included foods infused with ice wine, which isn’t particularly common in places outside the Finger Lakes, according to Andrea Colaruotolo O’Neill, Casa Larga’s marketing and sales director.
“There's only a few regions in the world that can produce ice wine, so that's something for us to celebrate here in Upstate New York,” she said. “When we're disappointed about how cold it is -- think about 15 degrees -- that's actually the temperature we like to pick the grapes."
