Rochester, N.Y. - Fire investigators are still looking for the cause of a fire the killed a mother of seven, but her family doesn't believe that the fire was an accident.
38-year-old Chandra Majors was killed in the fire at 234 Pierpont Street in Rochester on Sunday. A memorial has been set up on the front steps of her burned home. Many of the candles were put there Sunday night when Majors family and friends gathered for a vigil to remember the woman they said, had a smile that could light up a room.
“Every time she would smile it would automatically make me smile,” said Chandra Majors’ daughter Alexis Majors.
Chandra Majors’ daughters stood together outside their grandmother’s home, remembering the woman that was more than their mother.
“My mom was more like a best friend,” said Alexis Majors. “I could talk to her about anything.”
But while the family mourns they also want answers. Answers to how the fire started, and if her boyfriend, who they say abused her, had anything to do with her death.
“I want facts,” said John Majors, Chandra Majors’ uncle. “I want to know if he did this."
"If he didn't do it, then he should be exonerated on it," John Majors said.
Fire investigators have not called this fire suspicious and are not investigating it as a criminal act at this time. However, they are still looking for a cause.
