Rochester, N.Y. --- A federal indictment was unsealed last week charging Jafet Rivera, 25 of Buffalo, with nine crimes. Rivera faces seven counts of Coercion and Enticement of a Minor and two counts of Production of Child Pornography.
Rivera was first arrested in March 2012 at Rochester’s train station. The FBI suspected Rivera of traveling to Rochester to have sex with a 14-year-old girl he’d been communicating with through Facebook.
The alert father of that girl detected the communications and alerted the FBI in time for them to intervene.
"In our subsequent investigation we found several instances where he (Rivera) reached out to minor girls seeking sexual activity so we know that there's additional victims out there and that's why we're coming to the public with this," FBI Special Agent David Zariczny told 13WHAM News in April 2012.
Following that 13WHAM News CrimeStoppers report the investigation into Rivera continued. The criminal indictment unsealed last week references seven victims.
Rivera is expected to be arraigned on these charges in the coming weeks.
