East Rochester, N.Y.- Brush fires created some problems for drivers on Route 490 Tuesday afternoon.
Some exit ramps had to be closed for a short time while firefighters battled two fires near Route 490 near the East Rochester exit and the Penfield exit.
Firefighters say the fires happened between the ramps and recent dry weather fueled the flames.
Brighton Fire Chief Stephen Macadan said, “With the dry conditions we had the fire quickly spread, embers in the air, this moved the fire back and forth.”
Four fire departments helped battle the fires.
Chief Macadan says smoke drifted over Route 490 and they shut down the exit ramps as a way to keep both drivers and firefighters safe.
