Rochester N.Y.— It was a hot, hot July 4th in Rochester Wednesday. In fact, it was the hottest day we’ve had all year at 93 degrees Fahrenheit.
However, this didn’t stop thousands of spectators turning out to watch the city’s annual July 4th fireworks display.
“It felt like 101 degrees,” says Irondequoit resident Shawnta Thompson. “That's what felt like today.”
Despite the weather, Thompson says she would never consider missing the city’s fireworks display.
“For the last few years [the fireworks] have been great,” she says.
“They've been coming out with some new ideas.”
Young Explosives, a company out of Canandaigua, sets up the fireworks for the city each year. On Wednesday morning and afternoon, they worked through the blistering heat to prepare hundreds of fire works.
This year they promised that the fireworks would be higher, brighter and louder.
At the end of the display Wednesday night, there was a resounding applause from spectators as they walked away impressed, especially with the show’s finale.
“They are usually beautiful,” says Greece resident Roberta King. “They really are. There are a lot of beautiful colors and I really enjoy it.”
