Irondequoit, N.Y. - The Irondequoit Police Department has its first female Lieutenant.

Lieutenant Jonna Izzo, a 24-year veteran of the police force, was sworn in Tuesday night.

She says support from her family through long days at work helped her advance in the department and earn promotions.

She also said she hoped her work would pave a path for many more to come.

Izzo said that women bring a unique aspect to the police force and she hopes young girls see working as police officers as not just a job--but a career.
