(AP) - First Lady Michelle Obama joked in an interview set to air Wednesday that her now-signature bangs weren’t a fashion statement but a result of a “mid-life crisis.”

“This is my mid-life crisis, the bangs,” the First Lady, 49, said in a preview clip for Wednesday’s “Rachael Ray Show.” “I couldn’t get a sports car. They won’t let me bungee jump. So instead, I cut my bangs.”

Mrs. Obama revealed the new hairstyle last month on her 49th birthday, which came a few days before the inaugural festivities for her husband.

The interview was conducted via Skype and is scheduled to air on Wednesday. The Rachael Ray show airs weekdays at 9 a.m. on Channel 13.
