Brockport, N.Y. – A student at The College at Brockport is a finalist in the national Fit Man on Campus competition.

Connor McJury is a natural athlete; he started karate at 10-years-old and played both football and lacrosse for Fairport High School. But McJury has actually never competed in a fitness competition before this year.

“You just have to work hard,” said McJury, “and hope you get to a certain point.”

At least two hours a day, six days a week, you can find 20-year-old McJury at the gym focused on that certain point.

“Just trying to get better,” said McJury. “Every day just doing something that's going to help me get a little bit better.”

He wants to win "Men’s Fitness" and "Muscle & Fitness" magazines' Fit Man on Campus competition.

“My Dad actually saw it in a ‘Men’s Fitness’ magazine, and I thought it would be something cool to sign up for,” said McJury. “So I did, and hear I am.”

The judges and online voters were pleased. He's now one of the final four.

Meanwhile, he's realizing another goal. He's earning a degree in exercise science at Brockport, an achievement that requires him to flex his brain, along with his muscles.

“Just got to kind of organize your time,” said McJury. “You know, wake up go to class, do your work, and the gym comes after that.”

Knowing some achievements require effort and endurance.

“I would like to pursue some kind of career in fitness,” said McJury.
