Rochester, N.Y. - New York Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered flags to be flown at half-staff Thursday in honor of a 23-year-old army soldier killed in Afghanistan/
The Department of Defense said Pfc. Theodore Glende died Friday in Kharwar in Logar province. He had been wounded when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire.Glende was part of the First Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team.
"I join with all New Yorkers in mourning the loss of Private Glende and I send my deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and fellow soldiers," Governor Cuomo said. "We will honor the service of this young soldier and we will be forever grateful for his dedication to our nation."
Glende will be buried in Rochester, but final arrangements are still being made.
