Rochester, N.Y. - A former Gates-Chili basketball coach was sentenced to one and a half years in prison for raping a student.
Monte Nowden was sentenced Wednesday morning.
He was accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student at a movie theater earlier this year and pleaded guilty last month to third-degree rape.
In court Wednesday, Nowden also received ten years post release supervision and an order of protection for five years.
Nowden’s family members were in the courtroom for the sentencing and were clearly upset.
The Gates-Chili school district has already fired him.
