New Hartford, N.Y.- Family, friends, and former classmates gathered Thursday morning for the funeral of an 18-year-old girl killed in her dorm room at the College at Brockport.

Alexandra Kogut was a freshman at the school.

Thursday’s funeral services were held in her hometown of New Hartford, where Kogut was captain of her high school's swim team. Members of her former swim team lined up along the sidewalk outside the funeral home as the hearse drove by to say their final goodbye.

Kogut’s body was found early Saturday in her dorm room after her mother called campus police concerned because she couldn't reach her.

Clayton Whittemore of New Hartford pleaded not guilty to an initial charge of second-degree murder.

On Wednesday, a grand jury voted to indict the 21-year-old but details of the formal charges have not been released yet.

A court appearance scheduled in Sweden Town Court for Thursday was waived.
