Rochester, N.Y. - A fallen soldier from Rochester will return home on Friday.
Pfc. Theodore M. Glende died last Friday in Afghanistan. His wife, Alexandra, said he died in a mortar attack. Mrs. Glende said the Army told her that his unit was ambushed by Taliban fighters. Several soldiers went down after the ambush, and a medic was giving him instructions on how to treat wounded soldiers when he was hit by the mortar, Glende said.
The army told her that Pfc. Glende's body blocked the other soldiers from getting killed, and he saved their lives.
Calling hours will be held from 3pm-8pm on Friday at the Miller Funeral Home at 3325 Winton Road South.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, the 4th at the University of Rochester Interfaith Chapel. Interment will be private.
Pfc. Glende was a graduate of McQuaid High School, and had attended Niagara University. He married his wife Alexandra just weeks before his death.
