Rochester, N.Y. -- A registered nurse who says healthcare will be one of her top priorities kicked off her run for Congress in Rochester Tuesday.
Ann Marie Buerkle lives in Syracuse where she worked for the attorney general's office, but the Republican says she hopes to make her name will become well known here, too.
“People are saying we want our voices heard and not just have this agenda from this administration,” Buerkle said. “We want our voices heard and we want beyond Washington to listen to us. Washington isn't listening to people from the 25th district.”
Buerkle is one of four candidates running in the 25th District against freshman Democrat Dan Maffei looking for the Republican Party endorsement.
The 25th district stretches from Syracuse through Wayne County and contains Irondequoit and Webster.
