Galen, N.Y. -- A Wayne County man is accused of attempted murder after police say he tried to light a vehicle on fire while his estranged wife was inside.
Sheriff’s deputies say John Thoms, Jr., 50, of Galen, hit his wife, Debora, several times before she got into her vehicle and locked the doors. Thoms then allegedly poured gas over the vehicle and threw a lit match towards it.
The flame went out before igniting the fuel.
Thoms left the scene but was arrested a short time later. He was taken to the Wayne County Jail.
