Washington D.C. - General John Allen is no longer the leader of the U.S. Armed Forces in Afghanistan.
The Marine General met with President Obama Tuesday to hand in his formal resignation.
Allen says he needs to address health issues within his family.
The move leaves the U.S. looking for a new Supreme Allied Commander in Europe.
