Rochester, N.Y. - The health of a girl rescued from the Erie Canal in August is improving.

In a blog post, Yvonne Clanton wrote her daughter, Selah Clanton, 8, is now breathing on her own. Selah has been hospitalized since she was rescued from the Erie Canal on August 15.

Yvonne Clanton wrote Selah has improved since surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital.

The girl and her brother fell into the canal while they were in a stroller. Their father, Joe Clanton, said he turned away from the stroller for a second and the children, who were strapped inside, plunged into the canal.
