Monroe County, N.Y. – The community thanked its firefighters at a dinner Thursday night.

Two Mumford firefighters were among those recognized.

The quick-thinking and bravery of David Smith and Chris Trewer helped save a girl's life.

Last winter they heard the dispatch call saying a vehicle flipped in a creek, and they jumped into action.

"Chris came out of his house--we're neighbors--so we jumped in his truck and went to the scene,” Smith said. “I went down and held her head above water until our rescue truck got there, and rolled the car up and got her out."

For their work they received the Gold Seal Award.
