Rochester, N.Y. – Some local job seekers are now looking toward ‘greener’ pastures.
Nearly 300 people completed job training through PathStone’s Green for Gold program, which serves Rochester’s highest-poverty communities by giving people skills to enter the ‘green’ jobs market. More than 100 of them have already secured year-round employment.
Many participants have dealt with legal problems, or have been undereducated or underemployed. For them, the program is a second chance.
“This is great for me because I’m able to do many things, and it actually helped me a lot,” said James Holmes, a program participant who already has a counselor job. “I gained a skill set that makes me employable in a lot of arenas.”
