Rochester, N.Y. - A man who crashed into a Rochester police officer while driving drunk in 2004 pleaded guilty to the crime on Thursday.

James Extale struck Rochester Police Officer Nicole Cookinham on Galusha Street in 2004. She was never able to return to duty.

Extale had been convicted twice before on assault charges, but appeals courts threw out both convictions.

As part of a plea to vehicular assault charges on Thursday, Extale will be sentenced to time served.
