Rochester, N.Y. -- A man attempting to revive the Rochester-Toronto ferry has changed his mind.

Harper Sibley, whose family founded Western Union, has decided to end his efforts to bring back the so-called "Fast Ferry."

Sibley did not say why he abandoned his plans to bring the ferry back. He bid on a 300-passenger vessel last November.

The "Spirit of Ontario" ran between Rochester and Toronto in 2004 and 2005, but the project was eventually abandoned. It cost taxpayers millions of dollars in during its brief run.
