Henrietta, N.Y. -- A local EMT was selected for a prestigious state award this year.

Matthew Jarrett, an Operations Captain with Henrietta Ambulance, was selected as New York's Basic Life Support Provider of the Year.

He was nominated by his peers and received the same local award for Monroe-Livingston county in March. He was then selected from dozens of nominees for the state award.

Jarrett has worked fulltime for Henrietta Ambulance since 2005. He started his emergency services career when he joined the Scottsville Ambulance explorer post in 1993.

Jarrett now serves as Chief of Scottsville Ambulance in addition to his full-time role at Henrietta Ambulance.
