Penfield/N.Y. State - Flags will be flown at half-staff on state buildings today in memory of a soldier from Penfield who was killed in Afghanistan.

Army Sergeant Daniel Metcalfe, 29, was killed when enemy forces fired on his unit. Metcalfe joined the Army when he was 18.

Metcalfe’s wife and three children helped lead a service to say goodbye last week.

A memorial service was also scheduled for Arlington National Cemetery.

Governor Cuomo says the state of New York is grateful for Metcalfe’s service.
