Greece, N.Y. – Kathy Hochul has won the special election in the 26th Congressional race.
Republican Jane Corwin conceded.
Hochul finished second to Corwin by a narrow margin in Orleans, Livingston, Monroe counties, but won by 13 percent in Erie County, and seven percent in Niagara County to earn the victory. Corwin won in rural Wyoming County by a fifteen percent margin, and in Genesee County by a five percent margin. Results have yet to come in from parts of Erie and Genesee County.
Jack Davis earned nine percent of the vote on the Tea Party line in the race. Green Party candidate Ian Murphy received one percent of the vote.
Hochul will fill the Congressional seat vacated by Chris Lee. Lee resigned from Congress after shirtless pictures of the married Lee emerged. The photo allegedly came from a woman he had been e-mailing who he met on Craigslist.
Corwin could challenge the results, despite her concession. Her campaign obtained a court order Thursday morning blocking the certification of the election.
