Rochester, N.Y. – A local church reached out to a troubled neighborhood Sunday morning.
The Holy Apostles Church on Lyell Avenue held a community walk followed by a lunch and fundraiser with prizes.
The church is trying to being the neighborhood together by promoting its several outreach programs.
"Those are just the beginning of the things that we're doing to try to reach out to the neighborhood and try to give it a sense that the church is in part an anchor and a hope for the goodness that's already here," said Father Anthony Mugavero, the church’s pastor, "And hopefully (we can) overcome some of the things that aren't so good.”
Father Anthony also said he wants to help residents take ownership of their neighborhood.
